Puzzle Page

I love puzzles, so I thought it was fitting to make a few as part of my twenty year celebrations.

On this page:

Maze

Instructions: While riding through the part of the Preserve known as the Labyrinth, Mr. Maypenny found seven items. They included, in no particular order, a pin-cushion, a watch, a bracelet, a hair clip, a pocket knife, a chocolate bar and a compass. Riding further on, he discovered the culprit, six-year-old Bobby Belden, who had been strewing them Hansel and Gretel-style, and returned him to his home. Begin at the S and find your way through the Preserve to the F. In what order did Mr. Maypenny find the items?

(The rest of the story is a puzzle for another time.)

Logic Puzzle

After returning Bobby to his parents, Mr. Maypenny set about finding the owners of the items he had found. Each one belonged to a different Bob-White. From the clues below, your general Trixie knowledge, and the solution to the maze above, can you match each Bob-White to their found item?

  1. Mr. Maypenny first tried to give the bracelet to Jim, because it had his name on it. Jim set him straight on its real owner.
  2. The seven items are the one belonging to Brian, the chocolate bar, the hair clip, those that came from Manor House and the first and last found.
  3. The items belonging to the girls were found first, third and sixth. The sewing accessory belongs to someone who loves to sew.
  4. Jim did not lose a watch.
  5. Dan’s item was not edible.

Universes Described Badly

A while back, my fellow Admins and I issued a challenge to Jix as part of the Jixanny celebrations. The object was to identify each of the Trixie books from an unhelpful description. They might focus on a minor detail, or contain a play on words, or constitute a creative misrepresentation of events. This is much easier, because instead of thirty-nine books, there are only six universes. See if you can identify which is which.

Universes:

The descriptions, in random order:

  1. Trixie repeatedly demonstrates that she cannot follow instructions that begin with “Don’t”.
  2. History repeats itself for a whole decade.
  3. One-legged man single-handedly prevents child abuse.
  4. Road-blocks at every turn cause convoluted twists.
  5. People constantly wake themselves up in the middle of the night to deliver bad news, but no one seems to notice anything wrong about that.
  6. A secret door, two bookshops and fanfic.
